New Testament in Mixtec, Alacatlatzala (MIMWBT)

Overview

The Alacatlatzala Mixtec New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into a Mixtec language spoken in the municipality of Malinaltepec in the highlands of Guerrero, Mexico [1][2]. The language, known to its speakers as "tu'un savi" (meaning "words of the rain"), is spoken by approximately 20,000 people across communities including Alacatlatzala, Cahuatache, Tenaztalcingo, Jilotepec, and Zacatipa, with some speakers in neighboring Oaxaca [1][2]. SIL linguist Carol Zylstra conducted extensive linguistic documentation of Alacatlatzala Mixtec, including grammar and vocabulary studies [1][3]. The translation was published by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. and is available with audio recordings produced in 2016 and 2018 [4].
