The New Testament in Ayutla Mixtec (MIYWBT)
Overview
The New Testament in Ayutla Mixtec, titled "El Nuevo Testamento," was published in 2015 by Wycliffe Bible Translators [1]. Ayutla Mixtec (also known as Coastal Guerrero Mixtec or Tu'un savi) is a divergent Mixtec language spoken by approximately 11,500 people in about 30 mountain towns in the outlying settlements of Ayutla de los Libres, Guerrero, Mexico [2][3]. SIL linguist Robert A. Hills conducted extensive fieldwork on this language, producing studies including "Phonology and Morphotonemics of Ayutla Mixtec" and "A syntactic sketch of Ayutla Mixtec" (1990), as well as "El alfabeto del mixteco de Ayutla, Guerrero" (2004), which established the standard orthography for the language [3][4][5]. The language is notably divergent from other Mixtec varieties, with a number of words unlike those found in related languages [2]. Audio recordings for the translation were produced in 2015 by Hosanna/Faith Comes By Hearing [1].
