Overview

Nupela Testamen long Manambu is a New Testament translation in the Manambu language (ISO 639-3: mle), with copyright dated 2001 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] The title, meaning "New Testament in the Manambu language" in Tok Pisin, follows the standard naming convention for Bible translations in Papua New Guinea. Manambu is a Ndu language spoken by approximately 2,500 people in five villages -- Avatip, Yawabak, Malu, Apa:n, and Yambon (Yuanab) -- in the Ambunti district of East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. [2][3] This translation covers the 27 books of the New Testament.

Language and People

Manambu belongs to the Ndu language family of the Sepik River region in northern Papua New Guinea. [2] The language has been extensively documented by linguist Alexandra Aikhenvald in a comprehensive grammar published by Oxford University Press. [3] A Manambu-based pidgin is also used for communication with speakers of Kwoma, a neighbouring language. [2]
