Mangga Buang New Testament (MMOWBT)
Overview
The New Testament in Buang, Mangga. Mangga, or Mangga Buang, is an Oceanic language in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. The language is spoken by the Mangga Buang people, also known as the Lagis, who inhabit the Mumeng district in the mid-upper Snake River area of Morobe Province, as well as urban areas including Lae and Port Moresby [1]. The population is estimated at approximately 2,300, and the language is classified as endangered, with all adults in the ethnic community using it as a first language but not all young people doing so [2][3]. Bible portions in Mangga Buang were first produced in 1972, and the New Testament, titled "Vakasin Moos," was completed and published in 1981 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1][4]. A digital edition was subsequently made available in 2014 [1]. The Mangga Buang community is largely Christian, with approximately 95% identifying as Christian adherents [1].
