Mbula Bible (MNAPNG)

Overview

Genesis, Exodus, Ruth, Psalms, Proverbs, Jonah, and the complete New Testament in the Mbula language of Papua New Guinea, published in 1996 by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. [1] The translation was carried out by Wycliffe Bible Translators in collaboration with SIL linguists Robert and Salme Bugenhagen, who worked among the Mbula-speaking community on Umboi Island in Morobe Province for over 25 years. [2] During this period the Bugenhagens also produced a comprehensive 742-page Mbula-English dictionary, the first such dictionary of an Oceanic language published by SIL-PNG, which was celebrated at Ukarumpa in February 2008. [2] Mbula is an Austronesian language of the Vitiaz chain, spoken by approximately 4,500 people, and the written form of the language had only been in use for about 20 years when the dictionary was completed. [2]
