Marba 1999 Edition (MPGABT)

Overview

The Marba 1999 Edition is a New Testament translation in the Marba language, published by the Alliance Biblique du Tchad (Bible Society of Chad) in N'Djamena. Marba is a Masa-group language of the Chadic branch of the Afro-Asiatic family, spoken in southwestern Chad in the Tandjilé and Mayo-Kebbi Est regions. [1] Bible translation work in Marba has a long history: the first Scripture portions (Mark and Ephesians) were published by the American Bible Society in 1967 following the finalization of a Marba orthography in the mid-1960s. [1] The first complete New Testament was published in 1978 by the United Bible Societies with support from the Assemblées Chrétiennes au Tchad and the Roman Catholic Church. [1] A complete Bible (Old and New Testaments) was prepared by the Alliance Biblique du Cameroun in 1994 and published by the Alliance Biblique du Tchad in 1999. [1] The Marba writing system uses the Latin alphabet with tonal diacritics: acute accents for high tones and grave accents for low tones. [2]
