Murle 1996 Edition (MURWBT)
Overview
The Murle 1996 Edition, titled "ZƆƆZ O JOOWO" in the vernacular, is a New Testament translation in the Murle language of South Sudan, published in 1996 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] Murle is a Surmic language of the Nilo-Saharan family, belonging to the Didinga-Murle branch of Southwest Surmic. [2] The Murle people primarily inhabit the Pibor area of Jonglei State in South Sudan, with some communities extending into southwestern Ethiopia. [2] The language is also known by the alternate names Beir, Merule, and Murele, and has three documented dialects: Boma, Lotilla, and Olam. [2] With approximately 196,000 speakers, Murle is classified as a threatened language. [2]
