Tezoatlan Mixtec New Testament (MXBMVR)
Overview
The Tezoatlan Mixtec New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into the Mixtec variety spoken in the municipality of Tezoatlán de Segura y Luna, in the Huajuapan de León district of Oaxaca, Mexico. [1] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., with the text copyrighted around 2005-2006. [2] It represents one of more than fifty distinct Mixtec language varieties that have received Scripture translations through the collaborative efforts of SIL International and Wycliffe Bible Translators in southern Mexico. Language and People
Tezoatlán Mixtec (ISO 639-3: mxb) is spoken by approximately 5,334 people according to the 2000 INEGI census, in ten towns in the municipality of Tezoatlán in the Mixteca Baja region of Oaxaca. [1] The language is tonal, with three tone levels (high, mid, and low) that distinguish word meanings. [1] The communities practice traditional palm weaving and subsistence agriculture, growing corn, beans, squash, and tomatillos. [1] SIL Mexico has produced scholarly publications on the language, including a grammar titled Gramática popular del mixteco del municipio de Tezoatlán. [1]
