Mamara Sénoufo New Testament and Old Testament Portions (MYKWBT)

Overview

The Mamara Senoufo New Testament, published in 2005 under the vernacular title "Karinege Nomee Nivono," provides Scripture in the Mamara Senoufo language (also known as Minyanka or Miniyanka), a northern Senufo language spoken by approximately 1.7 million people in southeastern Mali [1][2]. The first Bible portions in Mamara Senoufo appeared in 1998, followed by the complete New Testament in 2005, with additional Old Testament portions produced between 2007 and 2023 by Wycliffe Bible Translators [3]. Mamara Senoufo is one of the national languages of Mali, and the Mamara people are historically known for the poro initiation society, which provides traditional leadership training and social cohesion [2]. The Mamara are predominantly Muslim (88%), with ethnic religions (10%) and Christianity (2%) representing smaller portions of the population, making the availability of translated Scripture a significant resource for the small Christian community and for outreach efforts [2]. The translation was carried out in collaboration with SIL International, which has also supported literacy and children's book projects in the Mamara language through its LiNEMA program in Mali [4].
