The New Testament in Mambila for Nigeria (MZKTBL)

Overview

The New Testament in Nigeria Mambila was published in 1977, making it one of the earliest translations produced in connection with what would become the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT, formally established in 1976). [1] The translation was prepared in the Gembu dialect of Mambila, the lingua franca of the Mambila Plateau in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State. [2] Preliminary Scripture portions, including the Gospel of Mark (1974) and Genesis selections, were published by the Institute of Linguistics in Jos during the 1970s, with contributions from translator A. Kangla and SIL linguist Mona Perrin. [2] [3] The Mambila people of Nigeria number approximately 55,600, and this New Testament was the first complete New Testament in the Nigerian Mambila dialects.
