Nakanai New Testament (NAKTBL)
Overview
The Nakanai New Testament was published in 1983 by the World Home Bible League (Liga Biblica Mundial del Hogar), with copyright held by Wycliffe Bible Translators. The translation was produced with the involvement of Raymond L. Johnston and Marilyn Johnston of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, who began linguistic work on the Nakanai (Lakalai) language in the late 1960s. [1] [2] Ray Johnston published a detailed grammar of the language in 1980, building on his 1978 PhD thesis. [1] Nakanai is an Austronesian language spoken by approximately 30,000 people along the coastal strip and hinterland of Kimbe Bay in West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. [2]

Nakanai (ISO 639-3: nak), also known as Lakalai, is spoken by approximately 30,000 people along the coast and hinterland of Kimbe Bay in West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. The language encompasses several dialects, with Bileki being the most widely spoken. [2] [Glottolog: naka1262]
