Iyo New Testament (NCAWBT)
Overview
The Iyo New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into the Iyo language (formerly known as Nahu), a Papuan language of the Trans-New Guinea family in the Finisterre-Huon subfamily, specifically within the Gusap-Mot subgroup [1][2]. The Iyo people live in an area straddling the main east-west ridgeline of the Finisterre Mountains in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea, with communities on the southern flank strung along the gorge of the Gusap (Nahu) River from 2,200 metres down to 500 metres elevation, and a smaller collection of settlements in the foothills to the east along the Bure River [2]. The language was originally called "Nahu" after the river near the first-discovered speakers, but the name was changed to "Iyo" (the word for "yes") after community leaders agreed on it; alternate names include Bure, Nabu, Naho, Nahu, and Ndo [2]. The translation was completed in 2009 by Wycliffe Bible Translators for approximately 6,900 speakers, and the vernacular title is "La Buk Tabu ale halaba te la valolo ale taritigi te Iesus Kraist" [1][3]. Audio recordings and digital versions are available through multiple platforms including Faith Comes By Hearing [3].
