Nafaanra 1983 Edition (NFRIBS)
Overview
The Nafaanra 1983 Edition is an early publication of Scripture in the Nafaanra language, a Senufo language spoken by over 60,000 people in the Banda district of the Brong-Ahafo region of Ghana and in Côte d'Ivoire. [1] Translation work began in 1972 when Dean and Carol Jordan were sent by the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT) to live in Banda to study the Nafaanra language and teach literacy, with Attah Kwasi as their first language teacher. [2] By 1975 the team had developed alphabets and printed the Gospel of Mark in Nafaanra and Twi; they were later joined by James Anane, Samuel Tsito, George Ababio, and Emmanuel Dwirah, who worked to complete the Nafaanra New Testament, which was dedicated in 1985. [2] The complete Nafaanra Bible was later dedicated on March 5, 2016 at Banda Ahenkro. [2]
