Huasteca Oriental Nahuatl Bible 2005 (NHETBL)
Overview
The Huasteca Oriental Nahuatl Bible, titled "Itlajtol toteco: Santa Biblia" in the vernacular, is a complete Protestant Bible (66 books) published in 2005 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] The New Testament portion had appeared earlier, in a first edition issued by La Liga Bíblica (5M) in 1984; the 2005 publication added the Old Testament to complete the full Bible. Illustrations are licensed from David C. Cook Publishing (1978), the British & Foreign Bible Society (Horace Knowles and Louise Bass plates), Scripture Press, and the American Bible Society. It is one of three coordinated Bible translations for the Huasteca Nahuatl varieties, alongside the Central (NCHTBL) and Western (NHWTBL) editions, all published in the same year. Eastern Huasteca Nahuatl (ISO 639-3: nhe) is the largest of the three Huasteca Nahuatl varieties and one of the most widely spoken Nahuatl languages overall, with approximately 1,730,000 speakers in Mexico. [2] The language belongs to the Eastern Nahuatl branch of the Uto-Aztecan family and is spoken primarily in the states of Hidalgo, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, and Puebla.
