Nek New Testament (NIFWBT)

Overview

The Nek New Testament contains the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) in the Nek language of Papua New Guinea, published in 2011 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] Nek is a Trans-New Guinea language of the Finisterre-Huon branch, belonging to the Wain subfamily of the Erap language family. [2] The language is spoken in approximately half a dozen villages in Morobe Province, on the southern slopes of the Saruwaged Range in the Nawaeb District, about 45 km northwest of Lae. [2] SIL International has conducted linguistic research on Nek since the 1970s, with initial fieldwork focusing on phonological analysis and Bible translation efforts to support language documentation and community literacy. [2] Scripture portions in Nek have been available since 1999, with additional translation work continuing beyond the 2011 publication. [3]
