Nii New Testament (NIITBL)

Overview

The Nii New Testament, titled "Gos Nge Ek Ka Ei Sinim Kin Ngolum," was published in 1980 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, making it one of the earlier New Testament translations for the highlands region of Papua New Guinea. [1] Nii, also known as Ek Nii or North Wahgi, is a Trans-New Guinea language of the Chimbu-Wahgi branch spoken in the highlands of Papua New Guinea in what is now Jiwaka Province. [2] The language has two dialects, North and South, and is notable for its unusual lateral consonants, including both dental and velar lateral fricatives. [2] Bible portions in Nii were first translated in 1971, preceding the full New Testament published in 1980. [1]
