The Bible in Ngiti (NIYWBT)

Overview

The Bible in Ngiti (Ungbòta-Ɔwʉ́tá Tɔ́ Bhǔkù) is a New Testament translation completed in 2015 by Wycliffe Bible Translators for the Ngiti-speaking people of the Ituri province in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo [1]. The Ngiti, also known as South Lendu, call their language Ndruna (or Ndrǔna), and the language belongs to the Central Sudanic branch of the Nilo-Saharan language family [2][3]. Translation and literacy work among the Ngiti has been challenging due to armed conflict in the Ituri region, which has periodically hampered linguistic and Scripture translation efforts [4]. SIL International has contributed to the documentation of Ngiti, with published linguistic descriptions characterizing it as a Central-Sudanic language of Zaire (now DR Congo) [5].
