Ndondehamba (NJDEBL)

Overview

The Ndondehamba is a Scripture portion containing the Gospel of Matthew in the Ndonde Hamba language (ISO 639-3: njd), spoken by approximately 30,000 people in the Lindi Region of southeastern Tanzania, specifically in the Nachingwea and Liwale districts [1][2]. The translation was published in 2025 by The Word for the World International. The Ndonde Hamba people are predominantly Muslim (approximately 85%), with a small Christian minority of about 10% [1]. Ndonde Hamba is classified as an endangered Niger-Congo language, used as a first language by adults in the community but not by all younger speakers [2].
