Nalca New Testament (NLCLAI)

Overview

The Nalca New Testament (Perjanjian Baru Nalca Yuba) is a translation published by the Indonesian Bible Society (LAI) in 2000. [1] The translation was completed by Roger Doriot, an American missionary who learned the Nalca language and worked among the Nalca people in the highlands of Indonesian Papua. [2] Nalca is a Mek language of the Trans-New Guinea family, spoken by a small community in the remote eastern highlands. The Mek people are centered around Nipsan in the north, Nalca in the southwest, and Eipomek in the southeast of their territory in the Yahukimo Regency. [3]

Language and People

Nalca (ISO 639-3: nlc) is a Western Mek language of the Trans-New Guinea family, spoken by approximately 16,000 people in the eastern highlands of Papua, Indonesia, particularly in the Yahukimo Regency of Highland Papua province. [2] [3] The Nalca language uses Latin script and follows an SOV (Subject-Object-Verb) word order.
