Nukumanu New Testament (NUQWBT)

Overview

The Nukumanu New Testament was dedicated on February 4, 2014. It was translated by Edmond and Evelyn Teppuri along with Sue Andersen of the SIL PNG branch. Nukumanu is a Polynesian outlier language spoken on the remote Nukumanu Atoll, which is administratively part of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea [1]. The primary translator was Edmond Teppuri, who was mentored over many years by Sue Andersen, an SIL literacy consultant, through Translators Training Courses covering Bible background, exegesis, and principles of translation [2]. Translation consultant Nico Daams of the Isles of the Sea project also provided assistance to the translation team [2]. The New Testament was printed in Sri Lanka in late 2013 and shipped to Papua New Guinea for the February 2014 dedication [3]. Nukumanu is one of five Polynesian-language New Testament translations completed with SIL involvement, alongside Rennell-Bellona, Lord Howe, Takuu, and Kapingamarangi [1].
