Nuni Northern New Testament (NUVANT)
Overview
The Northern Nuni New Testament was completed by ANTBA (Association Nationale pour la Traduction de la Bible et l'Alphabétisation) and dedicated in June 2023 in Pouni in the Sanguié province of Burkina Faso [1]. ANTBA is the national Bible translation and literacy association of Burkina Faso, established through a three-year preparatory process and officially recognized by the government in 1992, with its mandate to make Scripture available in the mother tongues of all Burkinabè peoples [2]. The organization is a partner of SIL International and works in approximately 18 languages across the country [2]. The Northern Nuni New Testament is also available as an Android application titled "Nuni Nord" and is distributed through the Faith Comes By Hearing platform [3]. Northern Nuni (also known as Nounouma and Nouni) is spoken primarily in the Sanguié and Boulkiemdé provinces of central Burkina Faso, where the Nuna (Nunuma) people have maintained a distinct cultural and linguistic identity within the predominantly Muslim and animist national context [4]. An earlier Bible portions project preceded the New Testament, and plans for Old Testament translation are expected to continue under ANTBA's long-term program [1].
