The Okpe Bible Translation Project was formally launched in March 2022 when the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Okpe Christian Assembly — the umbrella body championing mother-tongue Scripture for the Okpe people of Delta State. Three translators, Pastor Lucky Afure, Reverend Eunice Ahweyevu, and Mrs. Jerries Ambrose, were recruited and began capacity-building training in Lagos under the BSN's guidance. Okpe (ISO 639-3: oke) is spoken by approximately 52,000 people in Delta State and belongs to the Edoid language family. This entry records the Bible Society of Nigeria's ongoing translation initiative for Okpe (oke); a separate Okpe language (ISO 639-3: okx), spoken by a different community in the same region, has also received Scripture translation through a distinct effort. The Jesus Film and audio resources from Global Recordings Network are available in Okpe while translation of the full Bible continues.
