The Okpe New Testament (2021) was produced by Mission for Language Translation (MLT) in cooperation with Wycliffe Bible Translators for the Okpe-speaking community of Delta State, Nigeria. Okpe (ISO 639-3: okx) is spoken by approximately 16,000 people and is distinct from the more widely spoken Okpe language (ISO 639-3: oke), which has its own separate Bible Society of Nigeria translation initiative. MLT, which grew out of the Ika Bible Translation Project begun in Delta State in 1998, was constituted as a missionary organization facilitating mother-tongue Scripture translation for language groups across Nigeria. The 2021 New Testament is available for listening and marks a significant milestone in Scripture access for this smaller Okpe-speaking community.
