Olo New Testament (ONGTBL)

Overview

The Olo New Testament, titled "Il Teingipe Ma Ili Topwepe Lapiri Lirouku," was published in 1997 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. Olo (also known as Orlei) is a Torricelli language belonging to the Wapei branch, spoken in approximately 55 villages in the Lumi district of Sandaun Province, Papua New Guinea [1][2]. The language has an estimated 26,000 speakers, with the majority living south of the Torricelli Mountains and roughly 1,200 residing in coastal villages near Aitape [2][3]. Bible portions in Olo were first produced between 1969 and 1989, with the complete New Testament following in 1997 [3]. Although Olo is used as a first language by all adults in the ethnic community, it is classified as endangered because not all young people are acquiring the language [1].
