Oriya Easy to Read Bible (ORYWTC)
Overview
The Oriya Easy to Read Bible (ORYWTC) is a New Testament translation in Odia (ISO 639-3: ory), produced by the World Bible Translation Center (WBTC) and published in 2004. [1] This is an Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) translation, employing a dynamic-equivalence approach to render the Greek New Testament in clear, accessible Odia prose. [2] The edition is catalogued under ISO 639-3 code "ory," which designates the individual Odia language, as distinct from the macrolanguage code "ori" used by the related ORIWTC edition; both codes refer to the same standard Odia literary language, reflecting a difference in ISO classification practice rather than a linguistic distinction. [3] Odia is an Indo-Aryan language with official status in the Indian state of Odisha, spoken by over 35 million people and written in the Odia script. [4] A 2017 updated edition of the Odia ERV New Testament was later issued by WBTC India. [2]
