Ossetian New Testament and Old Testament Portions (OSSIBT)

Overview

This edition contains the New Testament and Old Testament portions (Genesis) in the Ossetian (Iron) language, published by the Institute for Bible Translation in 2004. The Ossetian translation project was part of a broader 25-year effort to produce the complete Bible in the Iron variant of Ossetic, spoken by roughly five-sixths of the Ossetian population in North Ossetia-Alania. [1] The New Testament was translated directly from the original Greek texts by a team that included renowned scholars from Russia, Germany, and the Netherlands. [1] Key translators Elizaveta Kochieva and Kazbek Mamukaev were later awarded the Medal "In Praise of Ossetia" for their contributions, while project coordinator Ketevan Gadilia, translator Tamara Bagaty, coordinator Vazha Bagaty, and exegetical adviser Dmitri Asratyan also received recognition. [2] The full Ossetian Bible, combining IBT's New Testament with the Old Testament translated by the Bible Society in Russia, was presented at the National Scientific Library in Vladikavkaz on September 20, 2022, coinciding with the 1100th anniversary of Alania's acceptance of Christianity.
