Parecís New Testament (PABTBL)

Overview

The Parecís New Testament, titled Waitare Wenati Aho, was first published in 1995 and carries a 2012 copyright from Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] Parecís (also called Haliti-Paresi by its speakers) is an Arawakan language spoken by approximately 1,800 people in the state of Mato Grosso in southern Brazil, where the Parecís inhabit nine indigenous territories including Rio Formoso, Utiariti, and Estação Parecis. [2] The translation project was designated as the first Scripture translation in this language. [3] Parecís is a polysynthetic language belonging to the Paresi-Xingu branch of the Arawak family, and its documentation has been supported by SIL International and other linguistic organizations.
