Papiamento 1975 Edition (PAPTBL)
Overview
The Papiamento 1975 Edition is a New Testament translation published by Editorial Evangelica in Curaçao. Papiamento is a Portuguese- and Spanish-based creole language spoken on the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao) in the Caribbean. [1] Early Bible translation efforts in Papiamento faced significant obstacles, including the absence of Papiamento dictionaries and no established rules for grammar and spelling. [2] The first publication translated into Papiamento was the booklet The Joy of All the People, completed in 1948. [2] This 1975 New Testament represents one of the earlier evangelical Scripture publications in Papiamento, predating the first complete Bible in the language, which was published in 1996-1997 by the Bible Society in the Netherlands Antilles.
