Patamona 2011 Edition (PBCBSS)

Overview

The Patamona 2011 Edition is a New Testament translation for the Patamona people, an Amerindian group of the Pakaraima Mountains in western Guyana. The Patamona, whose name means "People of the Heavens," speak a Cariban language also known as Kapong, which is closely related to the neighboring Akawaio dialect. [1] The translation was published by the Suriname Bible Society, which serves both Suriname and Guyana and has responsibility for Scripture distribution and minority language translation work in the region. [2] The Patamona population numbers approximately 5,000-6,000 people, with communities centered in villages such as Paramakatoi in the interior highlands of Guyana, where residents maintain literacy in both English and Patamona. [1] Kaieteur Falls, one of the world's most powerful waterfalls, holds deep cultural significance for the Patamona people. [3]
