Folopa New Testament (PPOYKS)

Overview

The Folopa New Testament is the product of 28 years of translation work by Neil and Carol Anderson, who joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1970 and arrived in Papua New Guinea in 1972 to live among the Folopa people in the hamlet of Fukutao in the Southern Highlands [1][2]. Because Folopa had no written form, the Andersons first had to create an alphabet, compile a dictionary, and develop literacy materials before beginning Scripture translation [2]. The completed New Testament was published in 2005, and a dedication ceremony was held on January 16, 2007, attended by nearly 500 people from Fukutao and surrounding villages who celebrated with traditional music, dance, and prayer [2]. Following six years on other ministry assignments, Neil Anderson returned to Papua New Guinea in 2013 to explore beginning translation of the Old Testament into Folopa [3].
