The Purepecha Audio New Testament is a Scripture resource produced by YWAM Morelia (Youth With A Mission, Morelia) for the Western Highland Purepecha-speaking community of Michoacán, Mexico. P'urhépecha is the language of the Purépecha people, an indigenous nation of the northwestern Michoacán highlands whose civilization pre-dates Spanish colonization and who successfully resisted Aztec conquest. The Western Highland variety (ISO 639-3: pua) is spoken by approximately 228,000 people in Mexico and 53,000 in the United States. A print New Testament, the Diósïri Karakata P'urheepecha Jimbo (DKPJ), was published in 2011 by the Bible Society of Mexico, and YWAM Morelia — which offers its Bible Education and Leadership Training program in Purépecha — produced this audio version for community members who engage Scripture through listening. The Oral Bible Translation Project at YWAM Morelia has highlighted the ongoing need for mother-tongue Scripture among Mexico's 364 languages.
