Pwo Northern Karen Bible Society Version (PWWTBS)
Overview
The New Testament in Pwo Northern Karen, published in 2002 by the Bible Society of Thailand. [1] Pwo Karen is one of the three major Karen language groups, alongside Sgaw Karen and Pa-O. [2] The Northern Pwo Karen people live primarily in the mountains of Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, and Lamphun provinces of northern Thailand. [1] Most Northern Pwo Karen follow a mixture of Buddhism and traditional Karen religion, with a smaller Christian community. [1] The translation employs Thai script and includes distinctive translation choices reflecting Karen cultural idiom, such as rendering "apostles" with a term meaning "right-hand men" and expressing "hardness of heart" as "with thick ears and horns." [3]
