K'iche" Cantel New Testament, Traditional' (QUCXIBS)

Overview

This is the New Testament in the West Central (Cantel) dialect of K'iche', published in the traditional orthography that predates the standardized system introduced by the Academia de Lenguas Mayas de Guatemala (ALMG) in 1986 [1]. The traditional spelling, titled Ru Lok' Pixab Ri Dios, differs from the ALMG-standard new orthography edition (see QUCWBT) primarily in its representation of glottalized consonants and vowel length. K'iche' is a Mayan language with over one million speakers in Guatemala's western highlands, making it the most widely spoken indigenous language in the country [2]. The Cantel variety is spoken in the municipality of Cantel in the Quetzaltenango department. The translation was first published in 1997 and reissued in 2011 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, as part of SIL International's broader Bible translation program in Guatemala that produced 24 New Testament translations between 1952 and 2001 [3].
