North Junín Quechua New Testament (QVNLLB)

Overview

The North Junín Quechua New Testament, titled Tayta Diospa Guepacag Testamentun, was completed in January 1998 and published in 2008 by Wycliffe Bible Translators through Bible League International [1][2]. The translation was the product of work by the Instituto Lingüístico de Verano (ILV/SIL), which began linguistic and literacy efforts among this Quechua community in 1969 [1]. North Junín Quechua (also known as Tarma-Junín Quechua) is spoken by approximately 60,000 people in the northern part of the Junín department and the southern part of the Pasco department, a region historically inhabited by the Tarma and Bombón peoples [1][3]. While the language remains vigorous in remote higher-altitude communities, younger speakers in more accessible areas increasingly shift to Spanish due to the influence of media and formal education conducted in the dominant language [1].
