Quechua Napo Lowland Mark (QVOWBT)

Overview

The Biblia Kichwa del Napo (MARCOS) is a translation of the Gospel of Mark into Napo Lowland Quechua (also known as Napo Kichwa), published in 2020 by Wycliffe Bible Translators as part of an ongoing New Testament translation effort [1][2]. The translation team includes Maritza, a literacy specialist, along with Claudia and Selmira, who travel by boat through the Amazon River system to reach remote Napo Quechua villages in Peru [2][3]. Napo Lowland Quechua is spoken by approximately 11,000 people in Peru along the Napo River in the districts of Torres Causana and Napo, with an additional 13,000 speakers in neighboring Ecuador [4]. The Napo Quechua communities have historically faced challenges including alcoholism, domestic violence, and poverty, and the translation team has produced Bible storybooks in Napo Kichwa to distribute in villages alongside the Scripture portions [2][3].
