Ramoaaina New Testament (RAITBL)
Overview
The Ramoaaina New Testament, titled "Buk Taabu Matakin," was published in 2006 by Wycliffe Bible Translators in collaboration with Bible League International. Ramoaaina (also known as Duke of York) is an Oceanic Austronesian language spoken on the Duke of York Islands in East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea, located in St George's Channel between New Britain and New Ireland [1][2]. The Duke of York Islander community numbers approximately 21,000 people, and Bible portions in the language date back to 1882, making it one of the earliest PNG languages to receive any Scripture [3]. SIL linguists produced grammatical documentation of the language, including the "Duke of York Grammar Essentials" describing the Molot dialect, as well as studies on aspect and participant reference in Ramoaaina narrative [4].
