Rembarrnga Christmas Story (RMBEBL)

Overview

This edition contains portions of the Gospels of Mark and Luke in the Rembarrnga language, an Australian Aboriginal language of central Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory [1]. Rembarrnga is a highly endangered Gunwinyguan language with very few remaining fluent speakers, as younger generations have shifted to Kriol and Kunwinjku [1][2]. Speakers live primarily in Maningrida and Ramingining and nearby outstations [2]. The translation was produced in 2021 by Wycliffe Bible Translators as part of ongoing Bible translation work in West Arnhem Land, where there is significant demand from Indigenous Christians for Scripture in their own languages [3]. The initial translation effort included Luke 2:6-12, translated for a Christmas project in 2021 [4]. The edition is also available through the Australian Bibles Android app published by Bible Society Australia [4].
