Luke in Vlax Romani Arli (RMYARL)

Overview

Luke in Vlax Romani Arli is a 2018 translation of the Gospel of Luke into the Arli dialect of Romani. Published by Pioneers, this draft translation is released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. [1] Arli is a Romani dialect spoken primarily in the Balkans, particularly in North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Serbia. It is the most prominent dialect spoken in Shutka (near Skopje, North Macedonia), which is the world's single largest Roma community. [2] The Arli dialect is primarily oral and lacks a standardized writing system, which presents significant challenges for translation work. [2] The translation is part of a broader effort by Pioneers in collaboration with The Word for the World, working across several Romani dialects in the Balkans including Arli, Gurbet, and Chergash. [3] Todd and Pamala Price of Pioneers have led the distribution of printed Arli materials, including Luke chapters 1-2 and a book of 50 illustrated Bible stories, with distribution events held in locations such as Leskovac, Serbia.
