Gurbet New Testament (RMYWFWG)

Overview

The Gurbet New Testament, titled E Devleso Lafi ko Gurbetsko dijalekt Srbija, is a 2023 publication containing portions of the New Testament (13 books) in the Gurbet dialect of Vlax Romani. Published by The Word for the World International, with translation work carried out by Pioneers and contributed by The Seed Company. [1] Gurbet (also known as Gurbeti) is a Southern Vlax Romani dialect spoken primarily in the southwestern Balkans, including Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania. [1] The translation team includes Marjan Macic, Goran Sajitovic, and Michael Becvar. [2] This project is part of a broader effort by The Word for the World and Pioneers addressing Bible translation needs among approximately 600,000 Roma speakers of three major Romani dialects (Arli, Gurbet, and Chergash) in Serbia and Croatia. [2] Printed materials including Luke chapters 1-2 and a book of 50 illustrated Bible stories in Gurbet were distributed at events in Leskovac, Serbia. [3]
