Buglere New Testament (SABWBT)

Overview

The Buglere New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into Buglere, a Chibchan language spoken by approximately 18,000 people in the Veraguas and Ngabe-Bugle provinces of central Panama, with a smaller community in Puntarenas province, Costa Rica [1][2]. Buglere (also known as Bokota, Bocota, or Murire) is closely related to Guaymi (Ngabere) and has two main dialects: Sabanero and Bokota [1]. The translation was carried out by Robert Dean Gunn (1942-2022) along with his wife Mary and his sister Judy, who served with Wycliffe Bible Translators for 55 years across Mexico, Colombia, and principally Panama [3]. The New Testament was first published in 1988 by the International Bible Society, with Bible portions available since 1980, and a revised edition was issued by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2008 [4][3]. Bob Gunn also served as SIL/Wycliffe's Central America Regional Director and later pastored at Crossroads Bible Church in Panama City for 23 years [3].
