The Ilchamus New Testament — "Lomon Supati le Yesu Kristo," meaning "The Good News of Jesus Christ" — is the product of sixteen years of translation work carried out by Bible Translation and Literacy (BTL), a Nairobi-based organization established in 1981 to facilitate Scripture translation and literacy among small language communities in Kenya and beyond. The Ilchamus, also known as the Njemps, are a Nilotic people of approximately 33,000 speakers who live around Lake Baringo in Kenya's Rift Valley; their language belongs to the Maa language family alongside Maasai and Samburu. Translation began in 2006, and the completed New Testament was dedicated on 8 October 2022. The audio edition, recorded in both drama and non-drama formats, is hosted's Bible.is platform, extending access to the Scripture to Ilchamus speakers who learn best through oral tradition. The translation team is continuing work toward a full Old Testament.
