Samburu New Testament (SAQWBT)
Overview
The Samburu New Testament was launched on December 14, 2019 at Kenyatta Stadium in Maralal town, with a second dedication held on January 4, 2020. [1][2] Translation work began in 2006 after a sociolinguistic survey revealed the need for Scripture in Samburu; previously the community relied on Maasai and Swahili Bibles. [1] In 2008, Samburu church leaders each donated a cow to raise funds for the translation. [1] The first published Scripture was the Gospel of Luke in 2014, with additional portions produced through 2015. [1][3] Over 10,000 copies of the New Testament have been distributed. [1]
