Southern Samo Bible (SBDABB)

Overview

This is the New Testament in the Southern Samo language of Burkina Faso, published by the Bible Society of Burkina Faso (Alliance Biblique du Burkina Faso). Scripture portions in Southern Samo were first produced between 1964 and 1991, and the New Testament was published in 1995. [1] A complete Bible in Southern Samo followed in 2011--2014. [1] The Southern Samo people, numbering approximately 180,000, live primarily in the northwestern regions of Burkina Faso. [1] Translation work has been complicated by the fact that the language has four distinct dialects with limited mutual intelligibility; roughly 75 percent of Southern Samo speakers are also bilingual in Jula, the regional trade language. [1] The Christian and Missionary Alliance opened a literacy center in Toma in 1989, supporting both literacy education and Scripture engagement. [2]
