Sursurunga New Testament (OT Portions) (SGZWBT)

Overview

The Sursurunga New Testament was first published in portions beginning in 1979, with the complete New Testament published in 2009. [1] The translation was produced through the work of SIL linguists Don and Sharon Hutchisson, who began linguistic fieldwork on the language in the 1970s, producing a preliminary phonology in 1975 and later a comprehensive grammar and dictionary. [2] Sursurunga is an Austronesian language spoken by approximately 3,000 to 4,000 people in the Namatanai district of southern New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea. [3] The language is notable among linguists for having a five-way grammatical number distinction in its pronoun system, including singular, dual, trial, quadral, and plural forms. [2] The translation was published by Wycliffe Bible Translators and includes Old Testament portions alongside the complete New Testament. [1]
