Salt-Yui New Testament (SLLTBL)

Overview

The Salt-Yui New Testament was published in 1978 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, making it one of the earlier New Testament translations completed for a Papua New Guinea language. [1] The translation work was supported by the linguistic fieldwork of SIL linguist Barry Irwin, who began studying the Salt-Yui language in the early 1960s and published a comprehensive grammar in 1974 through Pacific Linguistics. [2] Salt-Yui (also known as Yui or Salt) is a Trans-New Guinea language spoken by approximately 22,000 people in the Gumine district of Chimbu (Simbu) Province, Papua New Guinea. [3] Bible portions in Salt-Yui were available as early as 1967, preceding the full New Testament publication. [3]
