Shona Bible (SNAIBS)
Overview
This is a full Bible in the Shona language of Zimbabwe. The "IBS" in the abbreviation likely refers to the International Bible Society (now Biblica), which has been involved in producing Shona Scripture translations [1]. Shona is a Bantu language spoken by approximately 10 million people, primarily in Zimbabwe [2]. Bible translation into Shona has a long history, with the Bible Society of Zimbabwe publishing the first complete Shona Bible (the Mongenster translation) in 1949 [3]. Multiple Shona Bible editions have been produced over the decades, including the 1949 version revised in 2002, a Trinitarian Bible Society New Testament in 2014, and the Shona Contemporary Bible published by Biblica in 2018 [1][4]. The dedication of a contemporary Shona Bible translation was attended by more than 3,000 church and government leaders in Zimbabwe [2].
