Siane Komongu New Testament (SNPWBT)

Overview

The Siane Komongu New Testament was published in 1991 by Wycliffe Bible Translators as the first Scripture translation in the Komongu dialect of Siane. [1] Siane is a Trans-New Guinea language spoken by approximately 29,000 people in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. [2] The language has numerous dialects, with Komongu and Lambau serving as the two literary standards; a separate New Testament translation also exists for the Lambau dialect. [2] Linguistic documentation of Siane began as early as 1956, with Richard F. Salisbury's ethnographic work, and Ramona Lucht's phonological study published in 1962. [3]
