Somali Bible (SIM) (SOMSIM)

Overview

The Somali Bible (Kitaabka Quduuska Ah), known as the Adan Jim'ale Version, is the first complete Bible translated into the Somali language. [1] The translation was led by Aadan Jim'aale Faarah, assisted by Yusuf Nur 'Ise and Yusuf Salaad, with facilitation by SIM missionaries Warren and Dorothy Modricker, who helped the Somali translation team during the 1960s and 1970s. [1][2] The original translation was copyrighted in 1979, and a revised edition was published by SIM International in 2008. [3] The Modrickers were pioneering Protestant missionaries in Somalia who also established the Somali radio ministry Codka Nolosha Cusub (Voice of New Life) in 1972. [2] The translation is published by the Society for International Ministries (SIM) in Kenya and is available in print from their Nairobi office. [3]

Translation History

Aadan Jim'aale Faarah undertook the translation of the complete Bible into Somali beginning in the 1960s, working with assistants Yusuf Nur 'Ise and Yusuf Salaad. [1] Warren and Dorothy Modricker, SIM missionaries based in Somalia and later Kenya, facilitated the translation work throughout the 1960s and 1970s. [1][2] The initial translation was completed and copyrighted in 1979. [3] A revised edition was published in 2008 by SIM International.
