Selepet New Testament (SPLWBT)

Overview

The Selepet New Testament was published in 1986 by the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea, with the text copyrighted by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] Selepet is a Trans-New Guinea language of the Western Huon branch of the Finisterre-Huon language family, spoken by approximately 20,000 people in the Kiari and Pumune river valleys on the Huon Peninsula in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. [2] Linguistic fieldwork on Selepet was pioneered by SIL linguists Kenneth A. McElhanon and Noreen A. McElhanon, who produced a Selepet-English dictionary in 1970 and a comprehensive phonological study. [3] Bible portions in Selepet were available as early as 1975, preceding the complete New Testament by over a decade. [2]
