Sora BSI Version (SRBBSI)
Overview
The Sora are one of Odisha's oldest tribal groups, with approximately 500,000 speakers distributed across Gajapati, Ganjam, and Rayagada districts in Odisha, as well as communities in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Assam. The Sora practice animistic religious traditions and their economy combines shifting cultivation (slash-and-burn agriculture) and terraced hillside farming with forest product collection, handicraft production, and wage labor.
Bible translation into Sora has proceeded through several stages. IBT India's Sora project progressed to include the Gospel of Matthew, which was released and distributed to community members. The 2018 BSI (Bible Society of India) version listed here represents a more complete publication of scripture for the Sora community. The Sora language has its own script (Sorang Sompeng), developed in the early 20th century by a Sora scholar, though the Bible Society also uses the Odia script for some editions.

Sora (ISO 639-3: srb) is an Austroasiatic (Munda) language spoken by approximately 500,000 people in Odisha and neighbouring states of India. It is sometimes written in the Sorang Sompeng script or the Odia script.
